Volunteer Opportunities at Adopt-A-Family

Adopt-A-Family is fortunate to have the support and dedication of a community of volunteers that includes individuals, neighborhoods, civic groups, churches, businesses, and schools. Volunteers make our work possible, and we are always looking to connect with new potential partners. Read about ways you can serve Adopt-A-Family's clients below, and feel free to reach out to Layren Calvo ([email protected]) about volunteer opportunities.

Working with Children/Teens

Afterschool Tutoring

Some volunteers undergo the background screenings required to regularly tutor elementary school students in our Project Grow afterschool program. Because consistency is so important in the lives of the children we serve, a one-year commitment is requested.

Educational Workshops

Visit Project Grow or the Youth Success Program to lead educational sessions on age-appropriate topics, either as a one-time visit or in a series.

Special Events

Volunteer at STEM Night, coordinate a field day on the Project Grow turf, or host a party for the kids. We’re open to ideas!

Family Programming

Movie Nights

Help with refreshments and crafts at the Movie Night on the Turf, held one Friday a month during the winter season.

Dinner At The Shelter

A meal means so much to families who are housed in the Program REACH emergency shelter. The Volunteer Coordinator can advise on the amount and types of food that work best.

Seminars and Enrichment Classes

Working through Adopt-A-Family’s Volunteer Coordinator, come to one of our locations to present an informational session for our adult clients. Whatever your field of expertise, we will try to create a forum for you to help enrich the lives of the people we serve.

Our littlest clients especially love this event, held annually at Julian Place.

Trunk Or Treat

Participate in this non-spooky Halloween event by decorating your car trunk and giving out candy in this safe, fun environment.

Thanksgiving Food Drive

Help purchase, assemble, and distribute bags that contain stuffing mix, vegetables, gravy, and everything else that’s needed for a delicious Thanksgiving meal.

Santa Shoppe

Help wrap gifts, do crafts, or assist children in “shopping” for presents for their family members.

Gift Giving Event

Volunteer to wrap gifts or help parents select toys and games for their children. This event operates out of the Family Division of the Homeless Resource Center.

Work Projects

Volunteers are welcome to coordinate with our Facilities team on beautification projects on our Lake Worth campus – painting, spreading mulch, landscaping, pressure-washing.
